How to achieve optimal welding processes with FLOW-3D WELD
May 9, 2024 | 1:30pm ET
Laser welding can substantially improve the quality, productivity, and profitability of manufacturing processes by offering a higher level of precision and control. Laser welding process defects such as overheating, entrained porosity and lack of fusion can be mitigated by optimizing processing parameters to specific alloys. CFD simulations of melt pool dynamics and solidification provide key information on how process parameters affect porosity, heat affected zones, and microstructure evolution.
Understanding the behavior of the molten weld pool helps solve industry challenges such as welding dissimilar metals, where over- or under-mixing in the inter-metallic layer can cause porosity or crack propagation. Another challenge is found in keyhole welding, which is necessary for welding thick sections, but which often leads to keyhole instabilities that are difficult to control. CFD simulations are useful to explore industry solutions such as beam shaping and wobbling, to improve keyhole stability and increase throughput. In this webinar, CFD Engineer Garrett Clyma will break down how FLOW-3D WELD can be employed to develop process windows and explore novel technology to address industry challenges in laser welding processes.
