Contact Tanks

FLOW-3D allows municipal water engineers to accurately model the dynamics of contact tanks. The scalar transport model, the particle model and the chemistry model, alongside the next generation visualization tool, FlowSight, allow engineers to accurately determine mixing and hydraulic efficiencies, locate dead zones and recirculation areas.

As always with FLOW-3D, the FAVORâ„¢ method for representing geometries and structural elements makes re-meshing for alternate geometries a painless task. With new automatic conformal meshing capabilities, the meshing process now automatically captures great detail while retaining the long standing ease of use of regular Cartesian mesh approaches.

This is a model of a chlorine contact tank for a water treatment plant. Chlorine concentration is shown volumetrically alongside dynamic plots of concentration C(t) over time and change in concentration per unit time E(t) at a sampling station.
