Technical Webinar Series
Our series of monthly technical webinars will provide in-depth training in FLOW-3D HYDRO for current CFD practitioners, while also offering detailed insights into how CFD modeling is used and why it is increasingly relied upon in the fields of civil and environmental engineering. Previous webinars are available for on-demand viewing.
Contact Tanks & Reaction Kinetics
- October 14 | 1:00pm ET/10:00am PT
Chlorine contact basins (CCB) are used in water treatment facilities to treat water and wastewater. Chlorine treatment is a standard method of wastewater disinfection, reducing or inactivating pathogens. However, adding chlorine to wastewater does not guarantee effective results; inefficient mixing can create dead zones which lead to unequal residence times, while excess chlorine may cause a public health risk. The design and hydraulic efficiency of a chlorine contact basin determines the effectiveness of the treatment process. Computational fluid dynamics modeling using FLOW-3D HYDRO provides actionable insight during the design phase of a CCB for a variety of flow conditions and configurations. In this webinar we will demonstrate FLOW-3D HYDRO’s ability to model chlorine contact basins. We will start with a review of the fundamental capabilities, including how to simulate scalar transport and reaction kinetics. The presentation will also include a discussion of the physics and a review of the model setup for an example chlorine contact basin simulation.
