FLOW-3D/MP v5.0 Press Release

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO, May 15, 2013. Flow Science, Inc. announces the availability of a new release of FLOW-3D/MP, the distributed memory version of its flagship CFD software, FLOW-3D. FLOW-3D/MP v5.0 enables engineers to take advantage of the scaling potential of the software on multi-core clusters. FLOW-3D/MP v5.0 offers users substantial performance and scaling improvements compared to standard FLOW-3D v10.1 for workstations and to the prior release of FLOW-3D/MP, v4.2.

The physical models in FLOW-3D/MP v5.0 are based on FLOW-3D v10.1, which was released in early 2013. Read a complete list of FLOW-3D/MP v5.0 features.

Parallelization is the future of CFD. Users continue to simulate larger and more complex problems. By heavily investing in the development of our HPC infrastructure, we will allow our users to meet and even exceed their complex simulation needs, said Michael Barkhudarov, VP of R&D.

FLOW-3D/MP, first released by Flow Science in 2006, uses a multi-block domain decomposition technique to distribute the simulation onto compute nodes in a cluster. Flow Science has commenced shipment of this new release to FLOW-3D/MP customers under maintenance contracts.

13th FLOW-3D European Users Conference Presenters

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO, April 25, 2013. Flow Science announces the speakers for its 13th annual FLOW-3D European Users Conference, to be held on June 13-14 at the Hotel Petit Palace Savoy Alfonso XII in Madrid, Spain. Users throughout Europe, from both the commercial sector and academia, will present and discuss their work. An exciting lineup of speakers include Roche Diagnostics GmbH (Germany), Électricité de France S.A. (France), Sendekia (Spain), Form Stampi (Italy), and Antrametal (Turkey). Wave energy, aerospace, casting, microfluidics, coating, and hydraulics are among the represented application areas.

This year’s conference will begin with a general session featuring the latest developments for both the FLOW-3D solver and graphical users interface, presented by Michael Barkhudarov, VP of R&D and John Ditter, VP of Software Engineering at Flow Science. Attendees can then choose between two concurrent sessions that focus on casting and hydraulics applications. The second day of the conference will return to a general session format.

A half-day of free training will be offered the day before the conference and will focus on FlowSight™, FLOW-3D’s future visualization tool. Attendees can sign up for the training when they register for the conference.

Online registration for the conference and free training is now available. Regular registration for the conference is open through May 24, 2013.

CEI, the developer of the EnSight® suite of 3D visualization software, will be the exclusive visualization sponsor at the conference. CEI and Flow Science have partnered to make the power of EnSight® available to FLOW-3D users as FlowSight™, the post-processing and visualization tool of the future for FLOW-3D. 2013 FLOW-3D World Users Conference Announced

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO, March 21, 2013. Flow Science announced today that its 2013 FLOW-3D World Users Conference will be held September 19-20, 2013 at the Allerton Hotel in Chicago, IL. The conference is open to FLOW-3D, FLOW-3D Cast, FLOW-3D/MP and FLOW-3D ThermoSET users and anyone interested in learning more about Flow Science’s products. User presentations and posters are expected from a variety of interesting applications of FLOW-3D. Additionally, software development plans for FLOW-3D will be presented by Michael Barkhudarov, VP of R&D and John Ditter, VP of Software Engineering at Flow Science. Free training in the use of the customized version of EnSight that will be FLOW-3D’s future visualization tool will be held Wednesday afternoon, September 18.

The conference offers a venue for attendees to interact one-on-one with Flow Science developers and support engineers, learn from other FLOW-3D users, discover new modeling approaches, hear about the latest software developments, and hone their simulation skills.

The call for oral presentations and posters is currently open. Abstracts should be 250 words or less and include the title of the presentation or poster, author(s) name(s), job title, and company/institution name. Presentations and posters should focus on benchmarks, validations, practical examples, and case studies using FLOW-3D.

Online registration for the conference is available through September 6, 2013. An early bird registration fee of $100 US is available through July 26, 2013.

CEI and Flow Science have partnered together in order to embed a customized version of EnSight directly into FLOW-3D. In the free training on September 18, users will learn how to harness the power of the customized EnSight postprocessor in FLOW-3D to better visualize and understand their simulation data.

Flow Science Announces Release of FLOW-3D Version 10.1

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO, January 24, 2013. Flow Science, Inc. announces the availability of a new release of its computational fluid dynamics software, FLOW-3D, known for its high level of accuracy and large physical model library that serves a broad range of industries. FLOW-3D version 10.1 features a redesigned graphical user interface. The new design, which was based on significant customer input, gives users a streamlined approach to setting up, running and analyzing simulations. On the solver side, developments include new hybrid shallow water/3D flow, cooling channels and spray models and significant enhancements to the fluid structure interaction/thermal stress evolution and general moving objects models. The results file size has been substantially reduced to help users better handle and store their simulation data.

The hybrid shallow water/3d flow model is especially useful for civil and environmental applications. Large sections of rivers and coastal areas can be modeled using the very efficient depth-averaged (shallow water) equations, while structures like piers, spillways, and overflows can be modeled with the full 3-D Navier-Stokes equations. This allows users to set up approach conditions to 3-D structures rapidly, and to model complex networks of channels and diversions.

The driving force behind the redesign of the GUI was to help our users increase their productivity by making it easier for them to unleash the power of FLOW-3D’s solver. Some of the ways we’ve addressed this is by making the interface customizable so that users can set their own preferences, including dockable windows, a redesign of the Meshing and Geometry window where users spend most of their time, and a simulation queue manager that allows for easy management of simulations. We will continue our focus on creating the best user experience possible with the upcoming integration of EnSight into FLOW-3D, which will give our customers the best-in-class post-processing software to  better analyze, visualize and understand their simulation results, said John Ditter, Flow Science’s Vice President of Software Engineering
