We are pleased to announce that the 2018 FLOW-3D European Users Conference will be held at Le Méridien Stuttgart Hotel in Stuttgart, Germany on May 14 – 16, 2018. The conference will be co-hosted by Flow Science Deutschland. We welcome FLOW-3D and FLOW-3D CAST users and those interested in learning more about the software to attend the conference.
Call for Abstracts!
The call for abstracts is now open. Share your experiences, present your success stories and obtain valuable feedback from your fellow FLOW-3D users and Flow Science engineers. Abstracts should include a title, author and a 200 word description. Please email your abstract to email@example.com. The deadline to submit an abstract is Friday, March 30 and abstract notifications will be sent out on April 6. Both the registration and training fees will be waived for presenters.
Each presenter will have a 30 minute speaking slot, including Q & A. All presentations will be distributed to the conference attendees and on our website after the conference. A full paper is not required for this conference. Please contact us if you have any questions about presenting at the conference.

We will be offering advanced training on Monday, May 14 from 13:00 – 17:00. There will be two tracks that attendees can choose from: Metal Casting and Water & Environmental. The metal casting track will be taught by Dr. Matthias Todte, Flow Science Deutschland and the water & environmental track will be taught by John Wendelbo, Director of Sales at Flow Science. The cost of the training is 300 €.
Metal Casting Track
- Introduction to FLOW-3D CAST v5.0
- Setting up casting projects using the new workspaces and geometry types
- Best practices/tips and tricks
- Analysis of casting simulation results with an emphasis on the detection of casting defects using FlowSight
- Best practices/tips and tricks
Water & Environmental Track
Complex porous rock wall (gabion) fishway passage flow analysis
Fishway passages that rely on a mix of porous rock-filled structures with additional slotted weir action offer a complex set of simulation challenges and an ideal premise to explore best practice for model setup and in-depth results analysis. Drawing on a recent full scale fishway passage project, we will explore the many facets of the analysis, including best practice model setup, detailed validation and verification procedures, and advanced post-processing data analysis and visualization. The training will be divided into the following sections:
- Presentation of design and modeling challenges
- Base model: setup and best practice
- Porous media model: setup, verification and validation
- Hydraulic controls: weir and discharge analysis, verification and validation
- Results and analysis: species specific flow representations
Le Meridien Stutggart
Le Méridien Stuttgart Hotel is every bit as unique as its location. It is close to the Stuttgart central station at the lush Schloßgarten Park. All the famous attractions are just a few steps away: opera, theatre and shopping. The Mercedes and the Porsche museums are also conveniently accessible. (Taken from Le Meridien’s website)
