Power and Fidelity Without Compromise - High Productivity CFD

What if you could freely interact with your transient FLOW-3D data? What if your data was 50 times smaller? What could you accomplish?
With FLOW-3D and today’s compute systems, it is easier than ever to generate data faster than it can be interpreted. Model fidelity is increasing, physics are becoming more complicated, and transient simulation is routine for FLOW-3D users. This can slow down workflows when reading or copying large results files, repeating similar work on multiple datasets, or studying dynamic results in static forms like images and movies.
Today, CFD users are are successfully addressing these challenges using CFD data management, visualization, and automation tools.
CFD Data Management
Effective management of the CFD data using XDB files enables:
- Data reduction that can exceed 50x
- Batch processing of results to generate the lighter data
- Interactive review of even complex transient simulations – sweep, zoom, rotate, etc., free from the limitations of animations
- Faster retrieval of archives with smaller storage requirements
The XDB files are datasets like any other file and can be compared against other datasets whether full volume data or XDB files. The files don’t even have to maintain matching time sequences as FieldView will manage the multi-temporal data and match up the sequences. Below is a sample workflow for a FLOW-3D casting simulation.

New graphics technologies are producing tremendous increases in performance. With FieldView 13, we can sweep through the entire transient filling sequence at over 18 frames per second on a laptop. Reading the XDB data files on the same laptop required just 32 seconds (18 timesteps) where reading the original volume data required 25 minutes. This can save hours of engineer’s and project schedule time each day.

FLOW-3D users with available compute capacity benefit even further when they run multiple instances of FieldView concurrently. Using affordable batch-only licenses, multiple cases can be post-processed at the same time. For more information or to request a free evaluation copy, visit www.ilight.com.
