Application Note: Fantastic Features

New General Bubble Model
This new model extends FLOW-3D's adiabatic Bubble model to allow mass and energy exchange with the surrounding fluid and solids. Evaporation and condensation may occur simultaneously around the periphery of the bubble. Within the bubble, the pressure and temperature are uniform. The new General Bubble Model has already generated surprising results in MEMS applications and is expected to find widespread use for inkjet print head simulations, biotechnology, optical switching technology and more.
New Sediment Scour Model
This new model predicts the behavior of packed and suspended sediment and consists of two parts" drifting and settling (of sediment suspended in flow) and lifting (from shear stresses of liquid on a packed bed surface). Potential applications include erosion, (such as around dams, piers, weirs and underwater pipelines) and removal and drifting of sand or snow around and over terrain.
New STL Viewer
Flow Science introduces an all-new STL viewer for FLOW-3D, available on all supported platforms. The new FLOW-VU viewer uses powerful OpenGL programming technology to enable much faster and easier viewing of simulation results, and introduces a host of new and useful capabilities not previously available in FLOW-3D, such as cutting planes, control of lighting and checking the gridding of complex geometry. To fully benefit from FLOW-VU's awesome new capabilities, users will need to insure that their video cards support OpenGL graphics.
