From the Editor
Several new biographies of Charles Darwin have recently
appeared that honor the man and his ideas. The endurance of those ideas on natural selection and
the origin of species are attested to by the many books and articles describing
attempts to apply similar ideas in other contexts such as the evolution of social
and cultural customs.
Not to be left off the bandwagon, we have devoted this issue of the News to processes
that have contributed to the evolutionary development of FLOW-3D.
The reality of the commercial world is that we are in constant competition with
other software providers for customers. We must adapt to changing customer needs,
as well as experiment with new features to see what attracts new customers.
The development of FLOW-3D has always been viewed
as an evolutionary process in which the program is constantly being refined to
improve its robustness, accuracy, flexibility and usability. The latest descendent
Version 8.1 was released in October and gives testament in its own way to Darwin’s
ideas of natural selection and the origin of species as explained in the accompanying
articles.
