River Hydraulics

River hydraulics encompass a wide range of industrial and environmental applications, from Hydraulic Zones of Influence (HZI) analysis, to ice pack and debris motion, to plume discharge, to hydraulic controls (weirs, gates, spillways etc), to flood maps, estuarine modeling, flash flood modeling, contaminant transport modeling, fishway passage analyses. and much more.

FLOW-3D allows for a seamless navigation between Shallow Water methods (a sophisticated 2D modeling method) and highly resolved 3D modeling of the river flow, in all cases using three dimensional topography, bathymetry and structure/built environment representations of the environment.

Models that are often associated with these types of applications include FLOW-3D‘s turbulence models, the density and temperature evaluation model, scalar and particle transport, and the sediment scour model, all of which integrate naturally into FLOW-3D‘s major strengths in modeling open channel hydraulics.
