Join us in San Francisco for the 2012 FLOW-3D World Users Conference!

2012 FLOW-3D World Users ConferenceThe 2012 FLOW-3D World Users Conference will be held September 13-14, 2012 at the Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, CA, preceded by a day of free training. Join Flow Science staff and FLOW-3D users from around the world for insightful presentations, engaging conversations and a chance to pose your questions directly to Flow Science's developers and support staff. The conference offers an excellent opportunity to interact with other experienced users of FLOW-3D, to discover new approaches, see interesting modeling angles and hear about upcoming developments.

If all of the above reasons aren't enough for you to sign up, here's one more: A first look at the integration of EnSight's powerful post-processor into FLOW-3D will be unveiled at the conference.

The conference will begin with an Opening Reception and Poster Session, Wednesday, September 12 in the Northpoint Lounge in the Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf, from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. The reception is hosted by Flow Science.

Free Training

Flow Science will offer free advanced FLOW-3D training for hydraulics and general CFD applications on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at the conference hotel, directly preceding the 2012 FLOW-3D World Users Conference. In addition, Flow Science will give concurrent free visualization training, with assistance from CEI, Inc., the exclusive visualization sponsor for the conference. Conference attendees will be able to participate in training for both the advanced FLOW-3D and visualization training in their application area of interest. The visualization training will focus on the integration of EnSight into FLOW-3D. Attendees can sign up for training sessions when they register online.

Online Registration

Online registration for the conference is available through September 4, 2012. Conference registration will be waived for one presenter per presentation or poster author. The registration fee for the two-day conference, opening reception and conference dinner is 150 USD. Registration is now closed.

Speakers and Poster Authors Announced!

An exciting, international lineup of FLOW-3D users from industry and academia will present their latest work with FLOW-3D. Engineers from Albany Chicago, AECOM, Hyundai Institute of Construction Technology, Waseda University and Lexmark International are some of the many speakers and poster authors at this year's conference.

Opening Reception & Poster Session

On Wednesday, September 12, Flow Science will host an opening reception and poster session in the Northpoint Lounge in the conference hotel. The event will begin at 6:00 pm and appetizers and drinks will be served. All conference attendees and their guests are invited. Go here for a list of poster authors and their topics.

Conference Dinner

Conference dinner for the 2012 FLOW-3D World Users ConferenceOn Thursday, September 13, all conference attendees and their guests are invited to the conference dinner. The dinner will be held at McCormick & Kuleto's in the Captain's Room. The dinner will start at 7:00 pm. If you did not RSVP for the dinner on your registration form, please contact us. The conference dinner is sponsored by CEI, makers of EnSight.

Directions: McCormick & Kuleto's is .4 miles (an 8 minute walk) from the conference hotel. Directions will be provided in the conference materials.

We have negotiated a special rate of $209/night + tax, which includes high-speed internet access. Rates apply from September 10-14. From San Francisco International Airport (18 miles)

Take US-101 North. Take the I-280 North Exit towards the end of the freeway, which turns into King Street, which then becomes The Fisherman’s Wharf. Continue approximately 2 miles and turn left on North Point Street. Continue five blocks to Taylor Street. The Hyatt entrance is on the left, on North Point Street.  Our hotel is located on North Point Street between Taylor and Jones Streets.

Invitation Letters

Do you need to apply for a visa in order to visit the United States to attend the conference? Please email us to request an invitation letter to attend the conference. If registering online, simply check the 'Invitation Letter' box on the form.

Call for Presentations & Posters Extended Until Friday, July 27

Abstract Submission

Abstracts should be 250 words or less and include the title of the presentation or poster, author(s) name(s), job title, and company/institution name. Presentations should focus on benchmarks, validations, practical examples, and case studies using FLOW-3D. If there are multiple authors, please list the presenter first. MS Word format is preferred. The deadline to submit an abstract has been extended to Friday, July 27, 2012. Notifications of presentation acceptance will be sent out on Friday, August 3, 2012. The conference fee for one presenter per presentation will be waived. To submit your abstract for either a presentation or a poster, please email it to Flow Science.

Information for Presenters and Poster Authors


FLOW-3D users who submitted an abstract will be notified if their presentation has been accepted on Friday, August 3. If your abstract is accepted, we will contact you with the proposed time of your talk. Each presenter will be allotted a 30-minute time slot, which allows for a 20 minute presentation and 10 minutes for Q & A. Presentation formats can be either a PowerPoint file or a file format that can be opened in PowerPoint. Presentations are due Tuesday, September 6. If you have any questions about your presentation or would like to request an upload link, please contact Flow Science.


FLOW-3D users who submitted a poster idea will be notified if their idea has been accepted on Friday, August 3, 2012. The poster session will be held concurrently with the opening reception on Wednesday, September 12. Once the conference is over, the posters will then travel around the world to be displayed at the FLOW-3D user conferences in Asia. Poster participants will need to bring their final printed posters to the opening reception/poster session on Wednesday, September 12 before 5:30 pm. If Flow Science is printing your poster, it is due no later than Friday, August 31. Please contact Flow Science for a template for your poster or with any questions you might have.

Making a Poster

Do you want to make a poster, but don't know where to start? Here's a poster website where you can download free templates and tutorials about how to create a poster. Posters should be no larger than 4 feet wide by 3 feet high. Flow Science will provide adhesives to apply your poster to the posterboards at the conference.
