Pressurization of Liquid Hydrogen - Aerospace CFD Applications

Temperature distribution:100 sec.
Here is an example of FLOW-3D used to simulate the pressurization of a tank containing a small amount of liquid hydrogen. The tank has an ellipsoidal endcap and has a diffuser near the top. Hot hydrogen is pumped in from the bottom.
The hydrogen liquid and vapor in the tank are both initially at a uniform temperature of 20.26K (saturated conditions at 1 atm). The total time simulated was 100 seconds. The image to the left shows the temperature distribution at 100 seconds.
