Spring 2008

Letter from the Editor

"The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not Eureka! (I found it!) but rather, "hmm...that's funny..."
-Isaac Asimov

We're celebrating this Olympic year with our own Olympic-style events. For our venue there is a new Graphical User Interface that simplifies the tracking of simulation events and makes it easier to track performance. Team racing has been giving a boost through the release of an improved distributed memory, parallel processing capability. A new world-class event has also been added for the circumnavigation of the globe by a vessel powered entirely on bio-diesel fuel.

Getting around filters used in high flow regions to screen out undesirable elements has been made easier through the use of simplified rules, as explained in the Hints section. And finally, all these Olympic-like events are being facilitated with the opening of a new Flow Science office in Shanghai, China.

No undesirable steroids here, only the results of dedication, hard work and optimism for new levels of productivity and discovery. We hope these efforts will, in turn, lead you to new levels of achievement.
